Ukrainian Dream Team at the Design Event in Eindhoven

The 2017 annual Dutch Design Week starts on October 21.  For the first time, an independent Ukrainian project, Creative Ukraine. Between Tradition and Innovation, is presented at the event. The Ukrainian Exhibition is located at the Temporary Art Centre (TAC) of the venue.

“Our goal is to draw attention of international community to the creative segment in Ukraine. Our exposition is quite diverse. We are exhibiting traditional techniques that we deem important to preserve in the age of robotics, as well as technologically advanced items – a new and unusual trend in Ukrainian industrial design. Objects of contemporary signature design are also displayed,” – Olga Bogdanova, project curator, said in an interview.

Event participants include (Ukrainian) national design bureaus and studios working in various fields: Nottdesign – a studio from Dnipropetrovsk that holds several Red Dot Design Awards and is characterized by bold artistic design.

Hochu Rayu – a bureau from Lviv that makes furniture, gadgets and even medical equipment. Petcube – a gadget that has gained popularity around the world; it allows you to feed your pets and play with them even when you are far away. 2BGroup – an architectural bureau from Kyiv, whose main motto is ‘Make Things Simple”.

Sokolova Design Studio – a project of industrial designer Katerina Sokolova who has extensive experience in working with international brands. Faina Design – a Victoria Yakusha furniture project dedicated to modern interior design  featuring elements and materials of traditional Ukrainian culture

Svoya Studio –  a team from Dnipro that creates modern furniture with a dash of irony. Ryntovt Design – an iconic bureau from Kharkiv with a measured approach to design and exceptional attention to detail.

Contemporary Ukrainian fashion design is represented by Masha Reva and Irina Dzhus.

Dekorkuznetsov – a Dnipro studio whose visionary Valeriy Kuznetsov transforms everyday items into works of art. Eindhoven design Academy graduate Dasha Tsapenko is presenting her research in the field of fashion. Another project – geometrical pastry from Dinara Kasko – represents Ukraine as a country of food design.

The biggest design event in Northern Europe attracts those who seek progressive ideas underneath the layers of bright packaging and marketing tools. It could be an innovative function, conceptual aesthetics or rethinking of traditions. Dutch Design Week is an exhibition where you have to open your mind in order at the minimum to understand the students’ projects, and to appreciate the design trends of the future.

The presentation of the Ukrainian design in Eindhoven is the next logical step in promoting Ukraine as a country with a considerable creative potential.  Participation of the Ukrainian team of designers in Bologna Design Week, in Paris Design Week and now – in Eindhoven is a consistent and sure way of making a “Ukrainian design” brand recognizable in the world.
